What is a kundli (janmapatrika)?
A kundli is a map of where the planets were at the moment of your birth. Your birth date, exact birth time and birthplace determine the lagna, the twelve houses and the planets in them.
How is my rashi decided?
Your rashi is the sign the Moon was in at your birth (your Moon sign). The Western 'sun sign' is based on the Sun, so the two can differ.
What if I don't know my birth time?
The Moon stays in one sign for about two and a quarter days, so your birth date usually gives your rashi. The lagna and houses, however, need an exact birth time.
How many gunas are considered good in Gun Milan?
18 or more out of 36 is generally considered acceptable. Look beyond the total, too: Nadi dosh, Bhakoot dosh and Mangal dosh matter as well.
What is Mangal dosh?
Mangal dosh applies when Mars is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the lagna (or from the Moon). When both bride and groom have it, it is considered balanced.
How do you calculate charts?
We use Swiss Ephemeris with the sidereal Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the same ayanamsa used in India's national panchang. Your birthplace's coordinates and that day's time zone are taken into account.
