Sidereal (Lahiri), houses counted by whole signs. The favourable houses follow the gochara phala of the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra; for Rahu and Ketu the 3rd, 6th and 11th are used. The vedha (obstruction) rules are not applied.
Gochar is the planets' movement across the sky today. Tradition reads their effect from your birth Moon sign: each planet has houses counted as favourable, for example the 3rd, 6th and 11th for Saturn, Mars and the Sun.
This is general guidance. People experience it differently, and it depends on the whole kundli and the running dasha.
